“Find a place inside where there’s joy and the joy will burn out the pain.”
Joseph Campbell’s words resonate deep. No matter how much you try life will at some point bring misery. For most of us there were things that happened to us in the past that are indescribable. They hurt deep. We wish they wouldn’t hurt. We obsess about them. Trying to undo them. They keep us up at night. They visit us when we are alone. They make us feel that we not good enough. Not worthy. But know this – the past can not be changed. It is done. No amount of grieving will erase it. Another thing you should know is that each of us is beautiful inside. Embrace that. Forget about trying to bring down the old. Don’t try to eradicate the pain. Instead focus on the things that are good. On people that are good to you. Focus on the light. Focus on the joy whenever it happens. Create beautiful in life. Focus on that. It will bring you the joy and eventually it will replace your sorrow. Take your time and focus on the beauty. Even when it fucking hurts. Especially when it hurts. If you persist you can actually change. Change the chemistry within. Change your spark. Change your life. Focus on the joy.
And don’t forget – it’s in our darkest moments that we should focus on the light.
